Mia Kapeleula
At the age of 17, Mia relocated to the US from Zambia to attend college. After several years of being away from her first love, Africa, and her greatest love, her family, she felt a need to be rooted to her community. A friend recommended a local gym. Soon they were going regularly, sweating it out on treadmills, lifting weights and attending spin classes, but it was the yoga that caught Mia's attention... and held it. From a gym setting to the backroom of a small local studio to Lex Gillan's Yoga Institute in Houston, Mia quickly found her true self. This passion led her to complete her 200 hour YTT with Lex and 500 hours in Katy, Texas. She is currently registered as an E-RYT200 and an E-RYT500 instructor. Her Hatha-based classes range from an All Levels for Seniors to Powerful Flow, Restorative Yoga and the Great Yoga Wall. Mia is also a certified Arial Yoga instructor and a YTT instructor. She offers classes and workshops to all skill levels.
Her teaching style is intuitive and encouraging. She watches, listens, and feels the movement of a student's practice and is able to isolate a student's needs. She opens the entire room with mindfully yoked postures and then offers "play time" to allow students to work on their unique goals while offering one-on-one guidance to those who desire it. "One of the great things about being a student in Mia's class is that she can see what your body is capable of and as you begin to trust your body, you will see it too."
Mia is the mother of two beautiful children, and is a wife to her wonderful husband, 'Kap' who has always been her lifelong partner and her biggest supporter. Mia can be found on Instagram @yogimimi. She is also developing a blog
